HAND AND NERVE SURGERY : PRE OPERATIVE CARE

Coming in for hand, wrist, or arm surgery?  Here are a few general steps to follow.

  • Make sure to have a ride home - you will not be able to drive for the first 24 hours after surgery.

  • Please stop taking all Asprin products such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, and Motrin at least 1 week prior to your surgery date.  If you are on any blood thinning medication, ask your doctor about discontinuing before surgery.  These medications can increase the risk of bleeding and complications of anesthesia.

  • Please inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking.

  • Please inform your doctor of any medication changes between pre-operative appointment and surgery day.

  • Please inform your doctor of any illness or skin conditions you may have prior to surgery.

  • Unless instructed otherwise, do not eat anything after midnight prior to your surgery date.  Taking medication with a small sip of water is okay.

  • If you are unable to undergo surgery for any reason, please kindly inform your doctor as soon as possible.
